A brief background of the character:
Kamui, along with his twin, was granted the ability to move from one dimension to another by Yuuko, it being a power that has been of great use when avoiding a certain hunter's pursuit. Jumping from world to world, never in one place for very long before moving on to another; it was a pattern that continued on for an uncounted amount of time, at least until the twins happened upon a strange lake in a desert world.
Through ill fate, something that seems to plague the twins, Kamui's brother ends up captured by a Sakura feather in the water, unable to be released from his cocoon by the twin who wants so desperately to save him. Unwilling to just leave his sibling trapped there, Kamui instead chooses to remain and guard the lake, perfectly willing to cut down anyone who dares get too close. Upon his first encounters with the residents in the building, he makes it known that he plans to protect this place, not telling them why, and ends up doing so for three years. During that time he spends most of his time watching the water, hoping his brother will stir, or fighting off the Towers: a group lead by a man named Fuuma, who seems to enjoy teasing and taunting the vampire.
Eventually, a new group of travelers end up in the building containing the water reservoir, their reception being no better than that of others who made the mistake of wandering too close. However, it is because of events involving this group of travelers that his Subaru is finally freed, much to Kamui’s relief. All he wants to do is leave at that point, but his twin insists they stay to help both the travelers and the people of this world. After accomplishing this, after giving up some of his blood and dealing with Fuuma again, Kamui finally gets his wish of leaving, only…
Only to end up somewhere strange, a world in which everything is twisted and strange and dark, and a world where his twin wasn’t.
